Wind Faculty...Flute, Piccolo, Clarinet, Oboe, English Horn, Bassoon

LE ANNE WISTROM

Instructor and Performer of Flute & Piccolo, and Coordinator of Woodwind studies, is on faculty at Edinboro University, of Pennsylvania, where she teaches flute and directs the Community Music School. Ms. Wistrom is the Principal Flute of the Erie Philharmonic and Lake Erie Ballet Orchestras. She also performs with the Edinboro University Chamber Players. Ms. Wistrom has Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music from Indiana University.  Ms. Wistrom has served on Luzerne's faculty for over two decades.
 

ROBYN JONES

Clarinet Instructor and Performer, has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the Fort Wayne (IN) Philharmonic. She is currently Principal Clarinetist of the Louisiana Philharmonic. Ms. Jones has a Bachelors in Music from Indiana University School of Music, Bloomington, and a Masters of Music from Florida State University, Tallahassee.  Ms. Jones has served on Luzerne's faculty for over a decade.

 

RITA MITSEL

Oboe Instructor and Performer, is a doctoral student at Juilliard, with a Masters of Oboe Performance & Music Theory & B. of Music from Mannes College of Music.   Her performances include solos w/Orion String Quartet, Mannes Baroque Ensemble & American Russian Chamber Ensemble; chamber concerts @ Juilliard, Mannes,  Goete Institute & Aspen Music Festival.  She has appeared w/Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New England Symphonic Ensemble & Manhattan Philharmonic @ Carnegie Hall, Riverside Symphony @ Alice Tully Hall, Chicago Symphony, Civic Orchestra of Chicago & Aspen Music Festival, & presented "new music" w/the Columbia Composers Ensemble & International Contemporary Ensemble.

 

SUSAN ANDREWS LOEGERING

Bassoon Instructor and Performer, is the Principal Bassoonist with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans. She has also toured extensively with the Meliora Winds Quintet giving recitals and master classes. She received her degrees from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

 

Brass Faculty... Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Trombone, French Horn, Baritone, Euphonium, Tuba

TYRONE BREUNINGER

Instructor/Performer of Trombone, Head of Brass Ensembles and Conductor of Brass and Wind Ensembles, is former Associate Principal Trombone of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He is currently a faculty member at Rowan State University of Glassboro, N.J.  Mr. Breuninger holds a BS in Music Education from West Chester State University, PA and a Master's in Musical Performance from Temple University.
 

ERIC SCHWEINGRUBER

Senior Session Trumpet/Brass Instructor, is Lecturer of Trumpet at Temple University’s Esther Boyer College of Music. Principal Trumpet of the Bay-Atlantic Symphony (NJ), he performs frequently with the Philadelphia Orchestra as a substitute and extra musician. He is a frequent soloist with the Ocean City (NJ) Pops Orchestra.

 

WILLIAM SCHULMAN  will serve as Junior and Senior Session Instructor/Performer of Horn. His biography is on page 2 of the Faculty Section.

DANIELLE KOPLINKA-LOEHR

Trumpet & Brass Instructor/Performer,  is currently a student at Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music, where she is pursuing a Bachelors of Music in Music Education, as well as a Bachelors of the Arts in Comparative Literature. A native of Ithaca, NY, she began studying the trumpet with Jane Dunnick, and currently studies with Roy Poper of the Oberlin Conservatory. Danielle is very excited to be spending her first summer at Luzerne Music Center.


ANTHONY McFARLANE  

Will serve as Instructor of Trombone & Performer of Trombone as well as Instructor/Performer of Jazz and Composition Studies. His biography is found on page 2 of the Faculty Section.

 

 

 

Jazz, Composition & Percussion Faculty/Advisors


JOHN NAZARENKO

Instructor/Performer/Conductor Jazz Ensemble is an Artist-in-Residence at Skidmore College and a renowned jazz pianist. He performs as a soloist with numerous ensembles at many jazz clubs and performance venues in the Albany, NY area, and is also an audio production engineer with his own studio.  Mr. Nazarenko serves as an Audio Production Engineer for Luzerne Music Center's student, faculty and professional concerts.

 

ROBERT DEL GAUDIO

Instructor/Performer of Percussion, shown at left with 2006 student, will return to Luzerne in 2008. An alumnus of Luzerne, Mr. del Gaudio has a Bachelor's degree in Music from the Manhattan School of Music.  He currently is on music faculty at a private academy while pursuing graduate studies in music and performing in the New York metropolitan area.  He also serves as an active Officer of Luzerne's Alumni Association and organizer of its annual Alumni Weekend.

 

Chris Brubeck

CHRIS BRUBECK

Son of jazz legend Dave Brubeck, widely known as an accomplished trombonist and a jazz musician in his own groups Triple Play and The Brubeck Brothers, and for his work as a composer, Chris Brubeck was in residence at Luzerne in summer 2007 and currently serves on its Artistic Advisory Board.

 

 

Vocal Studies Faculty...

THERESA TREADWAY LLOYD

Director of Vocal Studies, is renowned as a Mezzo Soprano who has performed leading roles with major opera companies across the U.S.A., as a soloist with the Chicago Symphony and Cleveland Orchestra, and as a participant in the Metropolitan Opera Studio of New York, under the tutelage of Boris Goldofsky.  She is a member of Luzerne's Artistic Advisory Board.

 

JANELLE McCOY


Mezzo soprano, teaches chorus and vocal theory during Junior Session.  She has performed opera, recitals, and oratorio across the United States and Europe.  She has worked with renowned artists such as Donald Runnicles, Robert Spano, Robert Shaw, Dawn Upshaw and James Morris.

Clarinet, Assistant Conductor, Librarian

Noah Stern Weber is a freelance New York clarinetist and conductor who is active in the new music community. Having just finished his time as assistant conductor and clarinetist of the summer festival at L'École d'Arts Americaines de Fontainebleau, he now pursues commission pieces and works with composers in various genres and explores new ways to present the traditional repertoire. Mr. Weber recently completed a degree from the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, MD.

Flute & Summer Stage Manager

Leah E. Nace is a Sophomore at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, PA, where she majors in Instrumental Music, with an emphasis on the Flute, teaches in the University Preparatory Program and is in the Honors Program.  Her instructors include Reuben Councill, of the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Lynne Cooksey, of the Delaware Symphony and Opera Delaware, and The Late Edith Overly. She is a member of the Susquehanna University Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Pep Band and Chorale.

Piano

Cynthia Tobey is a native of Rhinebeck, NY. At the age of six, she began her piano studies with Margaret Shafer and Blanca Uribe.  Cynthia subsequently entered the Juilliard School, Pre-College Division at the age of eleven studying with Mr. Herbert Stessin for six years and graduating with honors and distinction. She then received her Bachelors Degree from the Curtis Institute of Music where she studied with Seymour Lipkin. She is currently studying in Vienna, Austria.

Viola

Alexander Pena is a double major in Music Performance (Viola) and Music Education (Instrumental) at the Eastman School of Music. His teaching experience includes a full private studio of violists, ranging from ages 9-13, in Rochester, NY, and a teaching assistantship in San Antonio, Texas, where he instructed 6 elementary school classes of violin, viola, cello, and bass to a program of around 120 5th grade students.  He has performed at the Eastern Music Festival, Cactus Pear Music Festival, Las Vegas Music Festival and, most recently, the Heifetz International Summer Institute (2007).

Violin

Chris Campbell is currently pursuing his Bachelors of Music  Degree in Music Education at the Eastman School of Music, where he studies with Timothy Ying.  He is on the faculty of the Eastman Community Music School where he is an instructor of beginning violin.  In addition to coaching strings, chamber music and  performing, Chris will help oversee the waterfront as a Red-Cross- Certified Lifeguard while at Luzerne.  He is an alumnus of Luzerne Music Center and the Hartt School of Music Community Division.
